“The bad news is time flies. The good news is you’re the pilot.”
- Michael Altshuler
Can you believe it’s time to welcome in another year? As much as we would like to forget 2020, this will be a year that will be marked not only for the onset of COVID-19, but for many other things that have impacted us as a nation. But before we turn the page, it’s important to reflect on what 2020 has taught us about ourselves so that we enter 2021 renewed and ready to tackle new goals.
There is no doubt that when most of us think of 2020, our thoughts will be riddled with struggles. In my book, The Beauty Underneath the Struggle ~Creating Your BUS Story, I encourage readers to embrace struggles as learning opportunities that will guide you to your purpose. We sometimes live with the belief that without struggles, there will be eternal bliss. This is not true. It is because of our struggles that bliss exists. Think about that for a moment. We would never experience courage if we had not first known fear, and we would never experience joy if there were not moments of sadness. These emotions co-exist and help us become the people we were meant to be.
Before we turn the page to 2021, allow 2020 to become your teacher or guide as you prepare to venture into new possibilities. Reflect on the following questions.
• What is something new you learned about yourself in 2020?
• What accomplishments did you make in 2020 that surprised you?
• In what way(s) did you help others in 2020?
• What is something positive you can say about 2020?
Remember, your present circumstances only determine your starting point, not your destination. You are the one who gets to choose your thoughts, your beliefs, and your behaviors. You are the one who will write the final paragraph of Chapter 2020. How will your account of 2020 end?
